Accounting Assistant (m/f)

Rakuten Europe S.a.r.l. is recruiting an assistant accountant to manage the key accounting ledgers and support the production of the financial accounts. Reporting to the Rakuten Europe EUHQ Accountant, and as part of a small finance team, you will be involved in various important areas of the accounting process including ledger postings, reconciliations, projects analysis, VAT/Audit work and various reporting tasks.

Rakuten Inc. established Rakuten Europe S.a.r.l. as its European regional Headquarters Luxembourg and started building its centralized Headquarter functions in 2013. Rakuten European Headquarters is mainly responsible for harmonizing business operations of its European Marketplace businesses, building synergies, driving alignment and ensuring that European businesses work as one team. In Luxembourg, we have a great team with people from all over Europe and beyond – 16 countries and growing!

For our European Headquarter in Luxembourg we are searching for an:

Accounting Assistant (m/f)          


  • Accounts Payable administration for supplier invoices – posting, approvals & payments for supplier invoices & employees expenses. Resolution of AP queries.
  • Accounts Receivable – responsible for raising and chasing customer (AR) invoices for services rendered.
  • Banking Support – setting up supplier payments, allocation of receipts & monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Fixed Asset Ledger maintenance – processing of additions, disposals, depreciation runs, asset audits and reconciliations.
  • Coordination of the “IT development Project (time) Sheet” in order to support the monthly accounts receivable customer invoicing process.
  • Reporting – Support the Accountant with monthly cost centre P&L reporting to budget holders.
  • Production of accurate monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations & Trial Balance.
  • Support the Statec & BCL reporting required by the Luxembourg government.
  • Assist with the annual audit and statutory accounts processes.
  • Support the VAT reporting & returns process.


  • 1-3 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Bookkeeping / double entry knowledge across the key ledgers.
  • Qualified as an Assistant Accountant (AAT) or prepared to become qualified.
  • IT literacy skills including Excel and Word. Preferably has experience of Sage or similar.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, adept at building relationships.
  • Organized & methodical, self-disciplined with excellent attention to detail & the ability to work to deadlines.
  • Ability to pro-actively solve problems and seek quick resolution of issues.
  • Good administrative skills.
  • An interest in business and finance & a team player.
  • Fluent level of English is mandatory as this is our common office language.
